“I am pleased to provide a reference for wonder wellbeing, who recently facilitated a workshop for Year 8 and 9 girls on the important topic of menstruation and menstrual health. Throughout the workshop, Maya created a welcoming and supportive environment, allowing the students to feel safe and comfortable discussing sensitive topics.

Her ability to engage with the students was evident in their active participation and positive responses. Maya communicated the content clearly and approached the subject with empathy and professionalism, ensuring that the students felt heard and respected. Her workshop not only provided valuable information but also encouraged open dialogue, which was greatly appreciated by both the students and staff.”

A growing global movement

There is a growing global movement on wellbeing, body awareness and menstrual literacy.

Specific health changes and challenges are rarely spoken of openly. Young girls therefore can feel uncomfortable and insecure, especially with the extra challenge of social media influences and societal taboos.

Because 50% of the population Mensturate, well rounded and age appropriate knowledge about girl-specific health topics is needed.

With a small amount of gentle, easy and welcoming conversations these experiences can change to become a source of empowerment . This education positively impacts self-esteem, body confidence and emotional health.

Schools have a vitally important role to open this container of knowledge for young women. Some women can go many years into adulthood before becoming aware of basic health topics which are specific to women. Within this work we hear “I wish I had known that when I was young!".. “Why were we not taught that in school?”.. about basic woman’s health topics. Over and over again!

NSW PDHPE curriculum

Our workshops address the specific objectives outlined in the NSW PDHPE curriculum and contribute significantly to the overarching goal of shaping the identity of students as they navigate the intricate terrain of adolescence.

By fostering a holistic comprehension of menstruation, self care, body image, changing identity and relationships, we address many aspects of well-being during adolescence. This results in empowering students and giving them the tools and knowledge to be the best version of themselves.

We acknowledge and respect the ancestral lands of the Yuin Peoples where we live and practice. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and future and acknowledge health knowledge which indigenous people have carried since time immemorial and continue to share today.
